Dear Berkley Community School Families,
When I was a young girl, I always knew that I wanted to be a teacher and a principal. I spent my childhood playing school and thinking about learning; so, when I grew up and began college, I knew where my heart was...the field of education! I enrolled at Notre Dame College in Manchester, NH and began my studies. While I was there, I learned not only to be a teacher, but also to be an Educational Leader. I was well prepared to enter the world of education. After I graduated college, I began my very first professional job...right here at Berkley Community School! I was an instructional aide and I worked with students in all grades from Kindergarten up to grade 8. The next year, I began teaching fourth grade...which I truly loved...and I did so for five years. During that time, I began thinking that someday I might like to fulfill my dream of becoming a principal and I returned to school and earned a Master's Degree in School Administration from Fitchburg State College. Eventually, I became the Assistant Principal of Berkley Community School; and then...the role I hold now of Principal. I never dreamed I would spend over twenty years working in so many roles in the same school...and I feel lucky to have accomplished this. Working at Berkley Community School has been one of the greatest joys in my life. The students are extraordinary; the staff exemplary, the families warm and welcoming and the community close-knit. Truly, this school is a special place.
There are two important philosophies that I utilize to guide Berkley Community School and ask the staff at BCS to do the same. First, everyone who works at Berkley Community School is a teacher. I hold this philosophy as I believe that every interaction that our students have with school personnel is a teachable moment...from ordering lunch in the cafeteria, to bringing a message to the office, to working in the classroom...the moments that the children spend with us offer countless opportunities to grow their self-confidence, independence and knowledge. Thus, every adult that is part of our school team expects to engage in teaching children. This creates an exciting, dynamic, student-centered environment. Additionally, I ask myself and the staff at Berkley Community School to strive to put children first in everything that we do. From the smallest decision to the largest, the students are the heart of our discernment. My years of experience in this role have taught me that even the most difficult decisions become crystal clear when I examine them using the lens of what decision makes the most sense for the children.
I am proud and privileged to lead this exeptional school. Please know that I am committed to doing the best job that I can to ensure the academic social and emotional success of each and every child entrusted to my care. This is a responsibility that I take seriously, and a job that I work diligently at each and every day. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me.
