About the Teacher
It is my belief we can all learn something new each day and do some good each day. I have an exceptional level of energy and patience! I have been a teacher at Berkley Middle School for 15 years. My education includes a M.ED in Literacy and Curriculum Instruction. Also, I am an SEI teacher (Sheltered English Immersion). My first career was working in a residential setting for people with disabilities. They taught me how to truly enjoy life and value each day!
All forms of communication are important skills to master in our global economy be it verbal, written, or visual and good listening skills cannot be stressed enough. In addition, learning to be part of a team and work with a variety of people is something students will need for any path they take.
As a life long runner and coach of the BMS Cross Country Team, I try to teach my athletes perseverance and goal setting. By choosing a healthy lifestyle, students can manage stress and time better. Finally, through sports students can learn compassion and leadership skills that last a lifetime.
Email works best for me! If you need homework sent home due to illness or absence, please call the school or email me directly. Work will be available for pick-up after 2:20. Our school nurse should be contacted following any changes in medical needs or before a return to school with special requirements following an absence. If need to speak with me via phone or wish to make an appointment, the main office will take your contact information during school hours. I can return phone calls after school or when students have Unified Arts.
Partners in Education
We will work together to make this year productive and successful for your child! As the saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child. I will be the ELA teacher for TEAM 6. Check out the Berkley Middle School website (http://www.berkleypublicschools.org/bms/index.html) for their contact information and access to the schoolbrains system to access to your child's grades.
This is an exciting year of growth. Your child will grow academically, socially and emotionally. Sometimes the year is more challenging for families than the child. Children at this age want to have more independence, but still need guidance to make good choices and to accept consequences for their action or inaction. As adults we struggle with knowing how much guidance to give and when to be a good listener and coach. One thing is certain, though, sixth grade is a wonderful time for students to try new activities, explore their strengths, and get involved!
TEAM 6 looks forward to helping your child reach for their potential.
